the importance of water

A few weeks ago I prepared a presentation for a youth meeting at church about the importance of staying hydrated. I thought it could be informational, so I’m sharing a [slightly] revised version here.

I hope and pray it will be inspirational for you.

Our bodies are made up of approximately 50% – 70% water. Even in our breath, we are continually losing water, and if it is not replaced, we become dehydrated. This process is often sped up by sickness, exercise, or heat.

When we start feeling thirsty, we are already dehydrated, and it is our body’s way of telling us that it needs water now! If we continue to ignore it, we will become fatigued, possibly develop a headache, and our mental and physical health quickly declines.

Drinking water has many benefits in our daily life. If you’re feeling tired, water can help wake you up, instead of a caffeinated beverage. Enough water helps to prevent muscle cramps and strains that can occur if you are dehydrated. Water helps decongest your system when you have a cold or flu, helping your body bounce back quicker.

There are certain toxins in our bodies that cause inflammation leading to acne, and by drinking enough water, we can help our skin by flushing these toxins out, which unclogs our pores and can help reduce acne.

H20 can help us think better! By drinking water in school or at work, you can excel in all you do!

So how much water should we be drinking? I’m sure we’ve all heard about the “8×8” rule: drinking 8, 8oz glasses of water a day. However, a better idea is to take your body weight in pounds, divide it in half, and the number you end up with is the number of ounces to drink in a day. Of course, if you are out in the hot sun, or if you’re exercising, you’ll want to drink more, but it’s a good rule of thumb to keep in mind.

Water can be very boring. Who wants to drink it when there are so many fruity, sugary, carbonated beverages around? If plain old water is too bland for you, there are ways to make it a bit more appealing. Some people squeeze citrus juice into their water, which is good. Another thing you can do is make “infused water.” This is easier to do in the summer, because more fruit is available. Basically though, you place chopped fruit or berries in your water and allow it to sit for several hours before drinking it. The flavors will seep in, leaving a pleasant flavor.

However you choose to do it, drink your water!

1 Corinthians 10:31 says, “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all for the glory of God.” By choosing to drink water and take care of our bodies, we are showing God that we love Him, and giving Him glory.

Philippians 4:8 || Lovely

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

This morning I decided to post Philippians 4:8 as this week’s verse, then later I realized that today’s photo prompt was, “Lovely.” Since Philippians 4:8 speaks of thinking on lovely things, I thought it was a really fun coincidence!

Pictures On a Page || 4th of July

On 4th of July my family went to a lake to see fireworks. It was a lot of fun, and I took my first pictures of fireworks, which you will see in a moment.

Panorama of where the fireworks were set off.
Waiting for it to get dark. The sunset was beautiful!!!

I don’t wear jewelry, but I did have a glow stick anklet.

Above you see some of my attempts at pictures of fireworks. I don’t have a camera with a lot of manual settings, so they were far from perfect, but I think they’re kinda cool. One thing I learned was how hard it is to compose a picture when you don’t know where your subject is going to be!

Those ones above were some that turned out kinda cool, but kinda weird too. I promise they are both fireworks though!

These are some of my favorites.

The grand finale, both of my post and the fireworks show. I took a video and captured this picture, and it turned out really neat!
